“Brahmatal” is a preserved lake nestled at an altitude of 3,200 meters in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. Every aspect of this region radiates beauty, and its geography is welcoming to trekkers of all skill levels. The landscape is serene, and local legends hold that the land is safeguarded by the Goddess “Nanda.” The flora and fauna thrive, offering a vivid spectacle at every turn. Brahmatal trek is also considered one of the beginner-friendly treks in the Garhwal region, making it an ideal starting point for those new to Himalayan adventures.

Rhododendrons and various species of oak trees line the paths, making the journey through the dense forests of the Chamoli Garhwal district vibrant and engaging. The wind carries whispers of the valley, bringing chills of the summit and reinforcing a deep-seated belief in achieving your destination. Access to Brahmatal Trek is granted through Lohajung, Didna, and Wan, with the necessary permits provided by the Uttarakhand Forest Department.

Nature sustains itself, and our company is dedicated to recycling, preserving serenity, and maintaining the authenticity of all natural resources in the valley. As we respect nature, we also expect travelers to uphold this balance with us. Brahmatal Trek is a celebrated and classic winter trek in Uttarakhand, yet it also offers distinct charms during the summer, spring, and autumn. The highlight of the trek is the grand and expansive view of Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti, which are truly spectacular.

Detailed Itinerary — Brahmatal Trek

1

DAY

Embark on your adventure from Rishikesh to Lohajung, setting off on a journey that spans approximately 250 kilometers. This day-long drive takes you through the heart of Uttarakhand, transitioning from the bustling spiritual life of Rishikesh into the tranquil and majestic settings of the Himalayas. As you travel, the landscape gradually shifts, offering glimpses of rural mountain life and the natural beauty that characterizes this region, setting the tone for the trekking experience that lies ahead.

2

DAY

To commence the Brahmatal Trek from Lohajung to Didna Village, you’ll first take a local vehicle to Kuling, a journey that lasts about 30 minutes. From Kuling, the trek starts with a downhill walk to the Neel Ganga river. After crossing the river, the ascent toward Didna Village begins. This segment of the trek takes you through a forest filled with rhododendrons, Himalayan bamboos and oaks, adding a vibrant natural backdrop to your trek. Once in Didna, a small village known for its quaint farms and fishing opportunities, you can explore the local area. In the evening, stroll to a viewpoint that offers sights of Wan Village, the Brahmatal summit, and a small section of Ali Bugyal, providing a panoramic glimpse into the surrounding beauty.

3

DAY

On Day 3, the trek starts with an ascent through a dense forest of oak and rhododendron trees. This challenging first half of the trek is also your last chance to refill water at Tolpani, the final water point on this section. As you push through the forest, the terrain gradually levels out. The trail leads to the enchanting Bekaltal lake — a serene hidden gem surrounded by dense oak forests. In winter, this lake is partially frozen and the surrounding forest draped in snow creates a magical atmosphere. Overnight camping by the lakeside.

4

DAY

This is the most exciting day of the trek. The top of the Phulara ridge is visible from campsites. After breakfast, trek to the sacred Brahmatal Lake — a serene spot known for its reflective waters and spiritual significance. The lake at an altitude of 3,200m remains completely frozen in winter. Continue to Brahmatal Top (3,730m) for the breathtaking 360° panoramic view of Mt. Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Chaukhamba, and many Garhwal peaks. From Bedni Top, the towering peaks dominate the horizon. After soaking in the views, descend all the way back to Lohajung. Overnight stay at Lohajung.

5

DAY

We will depart from Lohajung for the return journey to Rishikesh. This marks the end of your trekking adventure as you retrace the route back through the scenic landscapes of the Garhwal Himalayas. The drive back offers a final opportunity to reflect on the experiences and vistas of the past days, winding through the same mountain roads that welcomed you at the start of your journey. The drive is typically about 10-12 hours, bringing you back to the urban surroundings of Rishikesh by evening.
